The Civic Kiosk invites architects and designers to rethink one of the most familiar elements of the urban landscape: the traditional newsstand. Once a vital hub for information, culture and everyday social interaction, the kiosk now faces an uncertain future in the digital age.
Participants are also invited to redesign the kiosk itself, exploring new forms, materials, spatial configurations and architectural identities. How does a 21st-century kiosk look, operate and transform throughout the day?

Participants are challenged to imagine how this iconic micro-architecture could evolve to meet contemporary needs, introducing new programs, services and experiences capable of revitalising its role within public space. Whether conceived as a cultural venue, a neighbourhood meeting point, a café or something entirely unexpected, the kiosk is encouraged to become a catalyst for everyday urban life.
With complete freedom to choose the site anywhere in the world, participants are asked to envision innovative solutions capable of transforming a forgotten urban typology into a new landmark for civic life.
